To Felita, inspiration is “being extremely motivated by the actions of someone [she] looks up to.” Felita lives her life empowering others and finding ways to make the world a better place through all she does. Between her work mentoring other women, building biological nanomaterials in the research lab, and fostering lasting friendships, Felita is truly a rockstar!

Felita is, newly, a “firstie” (or senior) at the United States Military Academy at West Point
She is also on the pre-med track at West Point and the leader of West Point’s Corbin Forum
A fun fact about Felita is that she is an identical twin!
She is originally from San Jose, California and went to middle school in Shenzhen, China
Felita shares how her time in China sparked her passion for wanting to pursue service, specifically as a medical doctor, and pursuit of equity in healthcare around the world for all, especially women and people with unique abilities

Episode 20: For the Good with Evan Walker

On this episode of the You Inspire Me Podcast, Hope interviews Evan Walker, a graduating West Point cadet and a Rhodes Scholar. Evan describes inspiration as a really warm feeling that is embodied by a moment of clarity or an “ah ha” moment. She also describes inspiration as “being liberated by or from something.” Throughout this conversation, Evan shares practical wisdom for connecting with and supporting others while also recognizing the value and strengths within one’s own identity. Evan is from Texas and is currently an Operations Research (OR) major at West Point and she is on the boxing team
She shares that some of the most inspiring things in her life are her faith and relationship with God, her mother, and her closest friends
Her name, Evan, means “God is gracious,” and Evan shares how she used to be ashamed of having a “boy’s name” but now she loves it
As the Cadet Basic Training (a.k.a. “BEAST”) Commander, Evan set the precedent for focusing on inclusion and valuing every person’s unique identity

On this episode of the You Inspire Me Podcast, Hope chats with her long-time friend, Allie Morgan! Allie is a breast cancer survivor and celebrating being cancer-free for a year and a half! Allie is also the author, A. J. Morgan, of The Sea Nymph. She defines inspiration as “being when something or someone changes your perspective to want to be better.” She is inspired by empowered women she reads about in her extensive collection of books and novels as well as her husband, Tyler.

On this episode of the You Inspire Me Podcast, Hope had the opportunity to interview her dear friend, Ellen Dunlavey. Ellen says that “when you are inspired [and] doing something you don’t feel like it’s as hard… it’s not you who is pushing yourself to do it, but it feels easy like it’s not a burden.” Ellen is inspired by so many things, including her quiet time in the Bible and her family. On this episode, I had the phenomenal joy of chatting with Mrs. Angela Oakley. To Mrs. Oakley, inspiration “is finding motivation on a regular basis.” The Oakley’s are known by West Point cadets for being very generous hosts, especially for “Carnivorous Christmas” and Easter lamb decorating! Mrs. Oakley shares about being a military spouse, bringing cadets into their home, and pursuing grace in every moment. It is my greatest honor to welcome Mrs. Oakley to the You Inspire Me Podcast.

On this episode, I have the privilege of interviewing Miss Genevieve Oakley, a young lady currently residing in West Point, New York and in the eleventh grade. Genevieve defines inspiration as “the culmination of ideas and people and events” that have led her to what she believes in and what she hopes to “achieve in life.” She identifies some of the most inspiring people in her life being her parents and Taylor Swift. One thing you will learn from this interview is that this life has some BIG plans for Miss Genevieve Oakley!

Episode 9: Pain is Just Weakness Leaving the Body with Hannah Waite

On this episode, I interview my dear friend Hannah Waite, whom I first met as a roommate at the Naval Academy Summer Seminar, a summer camp for rising seniors considering attending the Naval Academy. Although neither of us nor our third roommate and friend, Kristine, did not attend the Naval Academy, we are all thankful that it brought us lifelong friendship in one another! Hannah describes inspiration as an intrinsic thing within side each of us that is motivated by external things – people, places, things, experiences, everything that happens to us! She also shares that everything inspires her, either positively or negatively, to live her life to further bring joy to others and fulfill God’s plan for her life.

Episode 8: Dwelling Together in Unity with Nako Caternor

On this episode, I have the great joy of chatting with my friend and classmate, Nako Caternor. Nako is a shining light for Jesus Christ and uses her gift and calling to help others on every part of her journey. She defines inspiration as, “something or someone motivating you intrinsically to make a certain type of change.” Nako is most inspired by her mother (and so am I now!) who graduated in the inaugural class that allowed women at the Ghana Military Academy, and she is now a minister. Nako lives her life treating others with love and respect, especially because she doesn’t always know what others are going through.

Nako appreciates walking alongside others to help them, just as team leaders supported her in her journey of passing West Point’s “Survival Swim” class
Her advice to people who are struggling is, “don’t stay alone,” and she advocates for doing life with others and in a supportive community
A long-term goal of Nako’s is to get a doctoral degree someday, and her daily goal is to help others

On this episode of the You Inspire Me Podcast, I chat with my friend and West Point classmate, Lili Ruland. Lili is someone who not only pursues her own dreams but also creates her own path with a smile as she does it! Although she shares how she has faced adversity on her journey, she describes how she always makes the most out of every opportunity she has. Lili defines inspiration as the “deeper sister to motivation,” and shares her analogy of stoking the fire to provide us with a visual for her inspiration.
